"Growing up" must truly initiate during that split-second, complete, full-body realization that, no, in fact you cannot have everything you ever wanted... And that, instead, you will have to accept, embrace and then choose (to make) some self-shattering sacrifices/compromises in order to take on that which you did not desire in the first place.
I believe that this breakthrough is immediately followed by the discovery that it is entirely possible to smile and laugh when your heart has just been broken down by the hard hard hammer of reality... and the real estate market.
